According to the website on El Convento, they have a pre-cruise for $191 per night. When I inquired about it for 2 days, they would be charging $764 for 2 days.
They explained its $191 per person per night. Now I know its Puerto Rico, but are all the hotels charging like this?
Because we want to go to the Observatory, we're thinking of renting a car & staying someplace about halfway between San Juan & the observatory.
Any suggestions for places would be appreciated! Please email me if you can. I'm at work & can't always get to this site during the day. Thanks guys!!
We changed a cruise because we found that although airfare to San Juan was not too high ,the hotels were very high- & combined it did not make sense.-Not worth it to fly all the way down there when on a longer cruise you can get to the same places..San Juan is not that much other than the fort, old town & the rain forest if you can get a day in port which is not often! Hope you find a reasonable rate someplace but make sure it is a nice hotel--someo f them did not look so great....
Wow! I'm flying tomorrow to San Juan prior to boarding the Serenade on Saturday. We've got a room at the Marriott for $139 that includes a breakfast buffet. I'd definately shop around a bit more.
People, try Priceline. I cruised this June and last June from Puerto Rico and
had not pay more than $100 a room (except for one Memorial weekend day).
See my past comment here:
Last Feb. our TA got us into the Condado (on the beach) for $120, including the shuttle service from airport to hotel and from hotel to ship. The shuttle alone is usually $44 each. RCI tried to switch us to another hotel on the other side of the island, a supposed "upgrade". TA checked it out and found that it was the same number of stars and 20 mi. away, so she declined the change. We were glad because we ended up with an "Executive Suite" on the top floor which had a free hors d'oeuvres buffet and cash bar in the lobby off the 10th floor elevator Sat. night. On Sun. morning they had a free continental breakfast, including pastries, bagels, toast, juice, coffee, fruit, cereal--everything but bacon and eggs. It saved us a fortune in meals. This hotel is about 10-15 min from the pier. It was beautiful! We had a room on the ocean and the views were spectacular. We had a nice relaxing time after breakfast exploring the grounds and then stretching out in lounge chairs by the ocean while waiting for the shuttle to arrive. Got to the ship early and zipped through the lines with our internet registrations.

We stayed at El Convento pre-cruise. We booked it ourselves. You can check the prices, but I think we did pay around 350$ a night for the room. At any rate, it is a very special hotel and we enjoyed every minute of it. It has a lot of history. It is also right in the middle of the Old San Juan and we could walk all over from there. We didn't feel like we could have been in any-city any-where which is often the case. We also went to Arecibo. We rented a car and drove there. It doesn't take too long. We also stopped at the camuay caves since we were out that way and enjoyed both of the sights.
We are staying at the Wyndham on the Condado strip for about 160.00 . Two years ago we stayed ther for 5 days and rented a car to run around the island and it turned out to be a good choice. I don't mind spening a little more for aknown quantity and that hotel is very nice.
Also, we drove to the rain forest, a golf course and Areicbo. It took us about an hour and 15 from our hotel and it was an awesome part of our trip...you'll love it. You have to watch the road map pretty close but it wasn't hard to get to.
This hotel has all you need and you are within walking distance of a ton of great shops and restraunts.
Hi Cassandra,
I went and check out their web site, they charged you correctly. Package deal per person per night.
Next time it is cheaper if you book just the room...
Loved san Juan. We stayed in a small hotel "El Canario by the Lagoon" in the Condado section. we just hopped the local bus to town . we tried to stay in the Old city but prices were exhorbitant and they wouldn't book for only 1 night. don't forget the Bacardi rum tour!
Hi Plano97,
what is your opinions about Wynham Condado in San Juan ?..I will try to get it for March 05 throught Priceline..is the room big enough for 2 adults & 2 kids? Is it a beach front resort? Did the hotel charge you any thing extra other than typical taxes?
thank you for your help
The Wyndham Condado is a fine hotel. There is a casino plus restaurants and shops. Nearby there are many upscale shops and restaurants. Across the street is a small lake where you can rent kayak. The room is big and will fit 2 adults and 2 kids without problems. The swimming pool area is pretty and the gameroom has many games. The beach is small though. I only paid the typical taxes and nothing extra. Here is the link to the hotel http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/SJUCP/main.wnt.
I have never had any problem calling the hotels I won from Priceline to request rooms with double beds, nor have I had any problem with Priceline hotels when I showed up with my 2 kids. None has charged me any extra fee for having 4 in a room, and I have stayed in many Priceline hotels. I think they rather like this because it is usually the rooms with king bed that are in short supply.
The hotel in which you stayed sounds great. Could you supply the name, please? We'll be in San Juan in Apri and have just started the hotel search. Much thanks.
