are you first time snorkelers or do you have some experience? It makes a difference in the suggestions.

I'm a first timer, my wife is first timer as well, but she can't swim. I asked in one of the other boards and they said she can get a vest so I hope that works out ok for her.

Thanks!

Hi Wil,
Yes, good idea to wear a vest, I always do and I can swim... I'd suggest doing a ship excursion that takes your snorkeling to St. JOhns/Trunk Bay, its absolutely beautiful. You can also do it by yourselves, but being a first time cruiser is why I suggested going with a ship sponsored tour. The island if St. Johns is something to see and the snorkeling is very good there. If you plan things right, you'll still have time to get some shopping in while in St. Thomas. There is a mall by the pier where you can do some serious shopping if time is tight, otherwise there is more shopping downtown.

What ship are you on?

Hi Donna, we're travelling on the Valor leaving on Jan 2!!!!!! Can't wait...I am thinking of booking a few of the excursions tommorrow and get them out of the way. From what I read elsewhere, it's best to bring our own snorkel gear?

HI Wil,
I like using my own gear, if you have it, just pack it, if not the equipment they give you on the excursion will work. We bought our gear for around $50. If you do plan on more cruises and snorkeling, then the $50.00 investment will pay off down the road...

Have fun!
