We're going to be in St. Thomas the last week in January and are going to book the Captain Nautica's Power Raft Snorkeling Tour. There are two times available for the tour, 8am and 12:30pm and I'm not sure which one to book. I'm leaning towards the 12:30pm tour because it will probably be warmer out, but will we still see lots of fish then?
either one would be fine, we prefer the morning tours, basically because it gives us time afterwards to do some island exploring and shopping. Note- if you take the afternoon tour, use EXTRA protection sunscreen on your back, back of your legs, even wear a t-shirt as the hottest sun of the day will be beating down on your back, as you snorkel --add to that the reflection off the water and you could end up with one killer of a sunburn, i am totally serious about this.
I actually purchased an underwater case for my digital camera. I can't wait to try it out!
Regarding the sun and snorkeling - I learned my lesson in Cancun and now always wear a t-shirt while snorkeling. For anyone reading this, your shoulders can get a horrible, horrible sunburn which could ruin your whole vacation.
I bought mine online at Best Buy. It was so worth the money. While everyone was running out of film with their disposable cameras, I was going strong. I got some great shots. Make sure you test the casing before putting your camera in it, clean it with fresh water after every use, and apply the silicon gel to it everytime you use it.
I ended up taking the 12:30 pm tour and I'm glad I did. I didn't realize how much there is to do on a ship and my husband and I usually didn't get to bed to after 1am.
