Default Ft. Lauderdale pre-cruise.

We are sailing on HAL Zuiderdam 4/9/05 out of Ft. Lauderdale. We are going down a day early and heard the intercoastal waterway has nice restaurants and nice for an evening stroll. Can anybody recommend a nice hotel in that area? We have never been to Ft. Lauderdale and don't know the area at all.

We were in Ft. Lauderdale in November. Fabulous place! There is a water "bus" taxi that you can ride all day for $5. We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper right on the beach. It was a block walk to the water taxi and 20-30 minutes down to the beach/Los Olas intersection (lots of restaurants). It was a beautiful walk right along the beach. The water taxi will take you out to the "happening" part of Los Olas, shops and restaurants. Have a great cruise.

We have stayed at the Marriott Marina - very nice, right on the waterway, yachts docked at the hotel and the pool area is open to the waterway, there is a nice outdoor bar with good sandwiches that is right on the waterway. Folks dock their boats walk up the gangway and to the bar.
We have also stayed at the Embassy Suites - very nice, large rooms, huge indoor atrium that is very lush and green. Cocktail hour and full breakfast are included in the cost of your room. Great outdoor pool. Free shuttle service from airport to hotel, from hotel to the pier.

PS - great restaurant right on 17th street - Biminy Boatyard - right on the water, you can eat either inside or outdoors on the patio. Very popular -great food -have your TA make reservations for you now- seriously for your April cruise.

Must respectfully disagree about Bimnini boatyard--we feel it is overpriced & over rated. It was noisy inside--there is no view at all --overlooks water but not the intercoastal itself. . Everyone's taste is different--it is sort nouvea noisy--it was OK for lunch--had burgers & a salad or a reuben. We walked in the hot sun & were very disappointed. Best intercoastal view is from the Hyatt revolving bar on the top floor--it's awesome. We stay at Amerisuites on 17th St a bit up from the intercoastal..There are three good restaurants right there--Mexican, Outback & a great steak house. You can still walk & wander down to the bridge quite easily.
