Default Aruba...what to do?

One of our stops is in Aruba and since the Empress of the Seas is scheduled for a late departure, any suggestions what to do during the day, and most importantly at night with this extra time we have? Any security problems getting around at night? Any popular restaurants we might try?

Nancy

Aruba is a great snorkelling port so you may want to take one of the snorkelling excursions here. When we're not going on an excursion, we like to browse around the town (you dock right in town) in the morning, head to Palm Beach where they have great swimming and nice silky white sand and bar/restaurant and washroom facilities. For those who like nightlife, Carlos and Charlies is a great party place right near the port. As far as I know, Aruba is pretty safe and there are always lots of cruise passengers going to and from C and C, even late at night.

Rent a jeep and do Aruba on your own. It is an easy island to navigate and you can stop as long as you want at each of the sites. Return the jeep wash up and depending what time is your departure time, have dinner in town. I heard El Gaucho steakhouse is great. If you want to travel a bit further take a cab to the flying fishbone it is right on the beach very nice. You can even eat at Carlos and Charlies and Party. There are casinos close to the pier also. Just one thing, Aruba is an expensive island since everything is imported so be prepared to pay high prices for meals.

Thanks all for your information! If we do decide on a restaurant, either El Gaucho or another one, will we need reservations?

we rented a car, 23 a day i think, very easy to get around. went snorkling at baby beach, a little bit of a walk in ankle deep water, but well worth it. water was rough the day we were there, but we did fine. dont turn your rented car keys back in till your done with aruba. if u still have the keys the guards will let u thru the gate to your car. just keep on walking other wise i personally think the walk around to is too long.
