Hi everybody!!! Can anybody tell me if the waters are calmer in the eastern caribbean or the western Caribbean. We will be sailing in mid may and havent quite made up our mind about our intinery! Thank!!
in mid-may its about the same. pretty calm, no guarantees, a storm could kick up at any time in any part of the Caribbean, both are great itienaries, pick the cruise that has the ports of call that interest you.
Weve done 2 western and 1 eastern, all over New Years and we found that the eastern cruise was rougher. We were also told this this by one of the officers. He said that there is more open water in the eastern carib (vs having some shelter from the Gulf of Mexico). Of course, it does depend on weather too!
We've sailed six times. 3 East and 3 West. All three eastern cruises we had at least one rough day. In fact, our last cruise was a ten day Eastern on the Sun Princess. We had 10 to 12 foot swells and 50 mph gusts. They asked people not to go out on deck and they stored all the chairs and outside furniture. Let's just say it was a rough 24 hours. On the western, we had one bumpy day over all three cruises and that was mild comparatively. It makes sense to me that since the eastern Caribbean has more open water, the chances are greater for rough water and higher winds.
