Default Best thing to do in San Juan from 5pm-midnight?

We need some advice on what we should do in San Juan during the late evening. Our cruise ship will be in San Juan from 5 pm Ė midnight on Tuesday, June 14.

My wife and I (in our young 30ís) have been to San Juan twice, but both times it has also been in the evenings. This sucks because we canít take the rainforest excursion, the Bacardi Rum Distillery Tour is also closed, and all of the shops (and El Morro) are closing or have already closed. In the past we have walked from the port up to El Morro and then back through the shopping area and got back on the ship. Overall, we have not really enjoyed San Juan and we are hoping to experience something this time that will leave a better impression in our heads.

We heard about some type of bioluminescence tour (Bioluminescent Bay)
on/near Isla de Vieques which involves kayaking but we donít know any details. We have heard that it involves about a 60 minute drive /ferry each way from the pier? Can we book that with the locals? How much? What is involved? How long is the tour? Is that something that we can do in our limited time or do you have to start the tour earlier in the day?

We also heard about taking a 10-minute taxi ($10-$15 each way?) to the Condado area, but we are not sure what we would do there.

I wish someone would answer your questions as I have the same ones. We will be on the Triumph May 7th and San Jaun is our first stop (5 midnight also). I've already settled on the fact that we will probably just get off the ship and walk through town and take a few pictures then get back on the ship. Why does Carnival even do this stop if there is nothing open in the evening?

We were in San Juan last week and did the night horseback ride that Carnival offers.
Although the traffic makes it about an hour & a half bus ride to get there we will tell you that it is worth the ride.

Great horses, free beer and a marshmellow roast/rest stop!

If you're into casinos, there' s a great casino across from where the ships dock. Aside from that, San Juan is a wasted port. I don't understand what's the big draw for all the ships to stop there - especially at night.

I agree its a wasted port. We arrvived 3 hours late at 7pm and most of the shore excursion were cancelled and after talking to the crew (who advised us, it wasn't safe to walk around) we stayed on the ship. A couple of people who went ashore said we didn't miss anything as all they did was go to a bar.

Best thing to do is stay on the ship--esp if you've already done the Fort & the bus tour
