Default Beginner Scuba in Cozumel

Has anyone ever done the beginner scuba in Cozumel? From what I can tell from looking at various website its a 3-4 hour course ending with a dive 30-40 feet. If you've done it, was it worth it? Cost seems to range from $60-$75/pp. None of us have ever dived before, but have snorkeled and loved it! Just looking for something a little different. Would this be it or would I be better off just booking a snorkeling tour?

Thanks

Darcy

What youre talking about sounds like a resort course and the certification is only good for the duration of your trip. Check out your ship as many now offer the same thing, and you can get the pool and classroom stuff out of the way while on board instead of chewing up port time. Plus, you may run into a language barrier if you dont pick a good shop (and there are a ton of shops in Cozumel-some good, some Id be scared about). Its definetly worth it-a lot better than snorkeling since you get a much better and closer view. If you find that youre really into it, you can check your local dive shop for full certification courses (and there are many levels, each one more fun and interesting). Another option later on is to take the course through your dive shop, and finish it with the check out dives through a shop somewhere nice! I grew up a swimmer and was always afraid of open water, sharks etc. After seeing the movie Big Blue and so wanted to dive so I learned how to. It came easy for me since I was comfortable in the water, and I quickly worked my way up to instructor. I taught down in Key Largo and Islamorada, and have been all over the world just to go diving. I got over my fear of open water and sharks-even went on a Great White Shark expedition in Australia. Go for it and have a great time!

We booked beginning scuba in Cozumel of the Seas back in 2000 through our cruise. What a great time! We dove to about 30 feet. Incredible! Do it.
