Default best cozumel beach for 7 yr. old non-swimmer

We'll be in Cozumel in August 2005 and we have a 7 yr. old who is still learning to swim. We've read so much on Mr. Sanchos, Chankanaab, and Paradise Beach but still can't decide on what's best for our son. What makes it even harder to decide is that my husband, brother, and I love to snorkel. We were planning on snorkeling in Grand Cayman so we don't have to snorkel in Cozumel if there's a great beach that doesn't offer a lot of snorkeling options. Can someone please give us some advice? Thanks!

Suzy:

I highly recommend Chankanaab Park. There's pretty good snorkeling right from shore and they have a lagoon area where your 7 year old can swim. Its shallow with little to no waves. We were there last year and had a great time. So much so we plan to go back this year. Any questions feel free to email me. Just put Chankanaab Park or Cruisemates in the message line so I don't delete it by mistake.

for sure chankanaab park. was there last week with my 8 year old. the lagoon is great. but take a box of dry cereal from the ship and go over to the rock steps and feed the fish. you 7 year old will not believe the fish that will show up. also the snorkeling is great too. saw everything. if you can snorkel above the paying scuba divers. hehehe. they feed the fish as they scuba. you will love the snorkeling there. you can rent gear. but if you have snorkeled before dont pay for that. just swim along the ropes and you will see all the fish you care to see.

Our now 3 yr old can swim, but we still bring a lifejacket from home for added security in open water, plus he loves to ride the waves. I dont know if you bring one along, but it gives us peace of mind (we still are in the water with him so its not a babysitter). I dont think you can take the ones off the ship. Check out target, walmart and boating stores as they carry child size ones.
