Default shopping in St. Thomas, St. Martin/Marteen, and Nassau

Where are the best places to shop in these areas??!! I will be looking for jewelry of any kind (diamond jewelry also). Where are the best bargains, but still good quality? What are each of these places known for as far as shopping goes - what are their specialities?? Do you recommend shopping over just plain sightseeing??!! It will be mid 40 year old women going!!
Thanks!

Since you are looking for diamonds, St. Maarten and St. Thomas are the places to look.
Both islands for the most part have the same major jewelery "chain" stores. We found that the salespeople in St. Maarten were much friendlier and helpful than those in St. Thomas, a lot of the salespeople in St. Thomas wouldn't even give you the time of day unless you were planning on dropping a good chunk of change in their store, then they couldn't help you enough.
Attend port shopping lectures on the ship. You must be an informed consumer if you plan on buying diamonds, have a good knowledge of pricing for a comparable gem at home. Really look at the cut, clarity, color, and quality of any diamond you are thinking about purchasing. We have had good luck at Royal Caribbean and Diamonds International.
If you find something at one store and you really love it, buy it, don't wait until you get to another store or island in hopes of finding a better deal or whatever, you will be disappointed.

Sounds like shopping and beach trip to me. We are going on Century in Apr/May and these are the stops. St Thomas you can shop either across from the pier at Havensight Mall or Downtown Charlottle Amalie. Gram (my wife) likes Diamonds International, Colombian Emeralds, Little Switzerland and Royal Carribbean among others. Downtown Philipsburg (St Martin) has many of these same shops and some of them can be found in Nassau as well. StThomas and St martin have tons of smaller shops .
Best bet is to know in advance what you are looking for and how much it would cost at home. If you are feeling too pressured, walk away from the deal.
These are the shopping capitals of the Caribbean and jewelry, small electronics, linens and lace are among the more popular items sold.

Well, forget about Nassau. of the three places you list, the deals on jewelry are in st. Thomas and St. Maartin. Both locations have good deals and it is hard to say which will have better deals, so buy it when you see it. If you go to St. Thomas first and you see something you like - buy it. I would NOT suggest hoping you will find a better deal in St. Maartin - although it is possible.

In general, there are tons of stores called Diamonds Internationsal and Little Switzerland, and i remember on St. Thomas a good store called Cardows.

The ship will recommend the most reputable places to purchase diamonds, t-shirts, alchol, etc... for each island, be sure to attend the meetings, very informative for whatever you are in the market for. Diamonds International has several sister stores all over the islands with the same reputation and similar names. Also they have a deal where you could purchase something this trip and your next trip trade it in for an up-grade, or something completely different which can be fun. They did when I went on my last cruise anyway, a coulple of years ago.

Enjoy!!

I second the recommendation of Cardows in St Thomas (left that one off my own list) and also I can add AH Reise . They actually sell almost everything there from liquor to jewelry to perfume.

I found the selection and service to be much better for jewelry in St. Maarten. The staff members were extremely friendly and helpful there. I bought my tanzanite ring there and couldn't have found a better deal elsewhere. I highly recommend Ohm Jewelers. Have a great trip.

Hi! Thanks for all of the suggestions on shopping! Please recommend anything else to see and do in St. Thomas, St. Marteen or St. Martin, St. John. It will be 4 of us - teenagers (18) and 40+ year old women! Thanks

In St. Thomas downtown proper they have this great open (look for the white tents) flea market type place where there are booths selling lots of stuff, T-shirts, purses, jewelry, etc... I've bought several rings at Cardows, that is my favorite jewlelry store. Go to Orient beach in St. Maarten, if some nudity doesn't bother you, it's a beautiful beach with lots of water sport activities to do or to just sit and relax. Have fun with whatever you decide to do!

Hard to recommend things to do without knowing what someone likes.
Shopping has been covered, that seems to be the number one "sport" on at least two of the islands.
How about beaches? On St Thomas alternatives include the very popular (maybe too popular) Maegens Bay. Two other alternatives include my recommendation Coki Beach and Saphire beach.
On St Martin one can even go to the beach just behind all the shops in Philipsburg at Great Bay . Orient Beach has been suggested. I like Dawn Beach. Less crowded, still has facilities.
Nassau, you can head to beach on Paradise Island. I recommend heading out To Cable Beach by bus or cab. Beaches are public, hotels may restrict use of facilities but there are several places along the beach for fod and facilities use. Hotels may block the use of pools etc, but, will usually not stop you from shopping on grounds or eating in restaurants and bars (unless all inclusive like Breezes).Breezes will sell you a day pass good for all facilities, food and drinks.

When we were there in January, the prices were much lower in St. Maarten.
We saw much of the same stuff in St. Thomas but at higher costs (and they were not as flexible about bargaining). I'd look seriously in St. Maarten. I think St. Thomas might be hyped up to much.
