Default Shore Excursions

In looking in some of the shore excursions, the advice of Royal Carribean is to book ASAP to avoid the tours filling up (ofcourse they want to SELL thier excursions) but honestly do excursions (snorkeling with Sting Rays at Cayman, Dunn River Falls in Jamaica) really fill up??? Shoukd I book some tours before leaving, or can I do this on t he cruise ship that week one or two days before the excursion???

thanks for any help

Certain excursions do fill up quick. Also, the internet purchase ability closes two weeks prior to your cruise. Pays your money....or takes your chances I guess. If there is something that you really want to do i.e. stingrays in Grand Cayman, which by the way I personally recommend, then get it purchased NOW. The other thing about purchasing prior to is that you can decide which time is best for you of times that are offered. If you wait to purchase onboard, you get the time that is available. Other excursions you can check out when you get on board and decide then if they are not a priority that you have waited your whole life to do. Just MHO.

Peter - the very popular excursion do fill up fast and sell-out, both ships and individual ones. The sting-rays are a must do, book it now just to be sure, there are lots of really good tour operators to choose from, we like Captain Marvin, personally, book on line.
Dunns River Falls - if you are travel saavy you can do this on your own, grab a cab at the pier - just make sure you use the government bonded ones, they are clearly marked. There is a marketplace at the falls, with some very aggressive vendors, just keep on walking, don't make eye contact, and grab a cab back to the ship. If you want to see some of the island hot-spots and the falls i would highly recommend booking a tour with either Peat Taylor or Trevor Haynes(sp?) both are very good, good reputations, again book in advance as they are hugely popular.
Book independantly, same some $$$
