Default Language in St. Thomas and St. Maarten

I am a first time cruiser and in October I will be going to these ports including Puerto Rico. (One of my best friends is going with and she is a native Puerto Rican so I don't need to know for there.) I noticed that St. Maarten has a Dutch part and a French part. Do they still speak English or a variation of? Thank you.

English is spoken. If you are fluent in French, the locals do appreciate you speaking in their native langugae. same for the Dutch side.

They speak English too. Didn't have a problem when we were there.

St Thomas is a US possession so the official language is Engllish but you probably won't recognize the type of English being spoken, very St. Thomian. As a native St. Thomian when I took by husband there shortly after we were married to meet my family he couldn't understand a word anyone was saying.

When we were there a few years back they all spoke English....with an accent. You won't have problems understanding them. I didn't.

Thanks everyone. Your answers make me feel more comfortable. Just a little other question that is bugging me. Where do y'all get the countdowns at the end of your replies?
