I have a 7 yr. old that can swim but he's nervous about venturing out into the deeper, rocky snorkeling area. The wading area seems like it's too shallow for him to enjoy. Is there a part of the beach where it's about 3-4 ft deep? Thanks!
We've been to CHankanaab before. From what I saw, I'm guessing that if you wade out farther, it gets deeper in that area.
The other area is a little more challenging for a little guy to get in. Gosh, it's not easy for me! It's very rocky and slimy. If he's wearing a life jacket though, and you're right there, he should be ok.
You'll enjoy your day there, we always do.
I've been to Chankanaab numerous times and I don't remember there being much shallow area at all. And what is shallow is rocky and a bit tricky to navigate. I don't know that I would recommend it for a youngster.
There is a small lagoon area that is sandy and seperated from the ocean by rock. As I recall, it may get up to two or three feet deep. There is also a large lagoon at the park but my understanding is that you cannot enter it anymore. A 7 year old may grow bored with the small lagoon. If this happens, you could always head out and go to Mr. Sancho's. It is free to enter and has wonderful sand beach frontage. The water there is clear and does not drop off to deep water very fast.
Thanks for the suggestion. How far is Mr. Sancho's from Chankanaab? I've actually debated the idea of going there because I heard they've got some great water rentals as well as ATV rentals.
The sandy beach area is the only really shallow swimming at Chankanaab. The lagoon is not for swimming any longer. The sandy beach swimming area gets about waist high until you go over toward the rocky area that separates it from the deeper water. The little ones like it there because they can run and and out of the water!
