manatees in belize

What is the best excursion to see manatees?

jfd,we did the River Wallace/Altun Ha excursion and near the end of the river portion we saw manatees in the mouth of the river. More to the point, we saw manatee noses as they surfaced to breathe. You had to be looking at the right spot when they surfaced. Kind of dissappointing accually!

Manatees are hard to spot--they are very big & do not jump out of the water the way dolphins so. Best place for Manatees is in Florida--t esp where they go to warm water in the winter. They have a nice boat trip from nearby the Power plant in Ft Myers(orange River) --saw lots of them but they do not jump!

Try Coral Breeze Limited tours they have one to a manatee rescuse and breeding place I belive.

There is a Manatee Reserve at a place called SWALLOW CAYE, which is about ten minutes by the tour boats either directly from the cruiseships or from tours taken from the Belize Tourism Village for a combination called MANATEE WATCH and SNORKELING. Great viewing. The manatee come to the surface near the parked tour boat and the water is clear enough most times to see these large, docile marine herbivores. Exciting tour.
