Default Cruise from NY to Caribbean in Feb or Mar

Has anyone cruised from NY to the Caribbean in Feb or March? What was the water like sailing down south at that time of year? Was the first day or two at sea cold? Any information about this time of year out NY would be appreciated.

Thanks.

We sailed from NYC on Feb. 27th this year, on the Norwegian Dawn. It was freezing! It took about 45 minutes to pass the Statue of Liberty which was an awesome sight and well worth the frozen toes & fingers. The seas were very rough the first day, and pretty bad two other days. We had no problems though & ate in the main dining room the first night and almost had the whole room to ourselves. Our ports were Port Canaveral, Miami, Nassau, and Great Stirrup Cay. The weather was unusually cold everywhere. The highs were about 72 even in Nassau which was not normal. We got mostly sunny skies however so it wasn't really bad at all. Being from Canada it was fantastic compared to the snow & freezing temps at home.

All in all we had a great time. Seeing New York for the first time was awesome. It was cold but sunny. We did some sightseeing in the morning before going to the port & we were thrilled to see Central Park, Times Square, etc. Although we didn't have great weather I would do it again no problem & just hope for a little warmer weather next time.

I debated going at that time of year from NY before we booked but discovered that no matter when you go you can't count on having good weather or calm seas and I really wanted to go in Feb. or March when it's still winter here in Canada. We were glad we went & had a wonderful time.

Hope this helps you,
Nancy

We sailed on the Queen Mary 2 this past March. It was smooth sailing to the Caribbean with mostly cloudy skies the first day and patchy sun and clouds the second.

I rather enjoy leaving from NYC, it's convenient since we live here and I also enjoy the gradual change over from freezing to balmy breezes in just a day and a half at sea.

Like Rebel notes, sailing out of New York is very exciting, watching all of the lights and cruising under the Verazanno Narrows.

Just a note - When you go to find your luggage, send someone else to stand in line for a porter. You must stand in line - it is not just grab anyone you can find. So, go find the spot where it says to stand for porters. Your family will have found their luggage and yours by the time you get one. You come in on the second level so will need to take the elevator down to street level.

We went on the Dawn one year March 14th..it was FREEZING! Could barely stay outside long enough to see the Statue of Liberty. Nice trip down..VERY rough coming home on the Atlantic! A superb ship though!! (bring more "warm" clothes..really only 2 days of "shorts" weather overall.)
