Default Grand Cayman, what to do.... Help!

We have cruised to GC two times before and would like to go to a beach this time. We hear good and bad reports of 7 mile island beach. Questions? Is it better to go through the cruise line so you have a place on the beach at a hotel or is it easy enough to get a taxi and go their on your own. If on your own, is it set up you can get chair rentals and drinks and food or must you go through a hotel. Can you get transportation back to the ship easily? If going through the cruiseline and hotel, are you packed in like sardines in a certain area? Also, we never saw HELL, is it worth the trip there. Would anyone suggest and island tour and then get dropped off at 7-mile beach. Any help would be appreciated. We do not want to go to stingray city, been there already. Elaine

Hi Elaine,

Can't help on the beach questions since we aren't "beach" people, but I'm sure someone else will be able to help with that!

As for Hell, unless it just happens to be on an excursion you'll be taking anyway, I'd suggest you don't make an extra trip there. It's a VERY small area of formations that supposedly looks like Hell. The main attraction is that you can mail a postcard from Hell. On our second cruise we did the Turtle Farm, Rum Cake Factory, and Hell tour. We were only in "Hell" for about 15 minutes. Just not much there!

Have a great cruise,

Hell is a long ride--very congested--better to do something relaxing so you don't worry about missing the ship or sitting in traffic doing not very much... we did do a nice beach club in that area (beach , pool & buffet with open bar)but it was a very long day & not well coordinated (spanish reef) that was before the storm--last time we just snorkeled & shopped.. Next time I hope theBotanical gardens are re-opened & restored....Good luck with your choice

Biebz- grab a cab at the pier and head over to7 mile beach. There are plenty of vendors more than willing to rent you a chair and provided drinks. The advantage of booking a day pass at the hotel is that you would have use of the hotels facilities(private beach, showers, etc) 7 mile beach is a public beach.
