Just realized as I looked at my Eastern Caribbean itinerary that we don't get into San Juan until 5 p.m.....any suggestions as to what a person can do in only 6 or so hours there? I thought we had the whole day, but it turns out we'll only have a few hours.
Any tips or suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.
We got off the ship and went to Senor Frogs for the yard long drinks. (Daughters wanted to do that.) Cute t-shirts and a cute frog to take pictures with. (Bragging rights I guess....) The restaurants were pretty pricey in downtown San Juan and after walking around in the hot, hot, sun for a couple of hours and doing some shopping, we opted to go back to the ship, have dinner and didn't go back........It was so hot that day, most shops were not air conditioned and it just felt miserable. We did, however, get an iced cafe mocha at the Starbucks there! We had cell phone service there through Verizon so we made some phone calls. We ended up getting to San Juan earlier than expected and if we had known that we would have booked a tour. I heard the Bacardi Factory night tour was nice but then again pricey. I've found that the worst thing you can do on a shore excursion is to try to put too much into the time you have there. That's what we tried to do in St. Thomas and it backfired in more ways than one.
We were in San Juan, PR last January from 4:00 pm to 1:00AM. Costa-Mediterrean was our ship. We took a tour with Debbie the owner of the Legends of Puerto Rico. (www.legendsofpr.com) . It was called the Night Tales in Old San Juan. She took us all around Old San Juan. We had a great time. Debbie is very proud of her country and her enthusiasm really showed. The tour started at 6:00pm. Her e-mail is email@example.com. I have her phone # too if you need it. If you need more info, just let me know. Take care , Knarf (Frank backwards) from PA
Hey Knarf, I too am on the Costa cruise and Im thinking of takeing this tour. Does she provide pick up at the dock? Were there any ghost stories included? Do you think it was better then the Costa city tour? How long was the tour and did you go anywhere after ward?
that night tour of Old San Juan sounds really interesting.
You can go to the hotels/casinos
Have heard that the Barcardi Factory tour is overpriced and overrated.
The bioluminescent tour is supposed to be very interesting- best during a full moon.
The flamingo/cultural show is a waste of time and money, all they do is push, push, push the drinks and the dancers are just so-so.
on your frist trip on the triumph we get in to san jaun at 5.oopm there not much to do unless your party person my in laws wanted to eat out in
san juan we were intrest in doing that when you can get a good dinner on the ship i wish we could geten there earlier so you can see something
If you dock at Pier 4 you can walk into Old San Juan on your own,but if you dock out at Pan American pier[it is on the other side of the harbor]you can go to OSJ by cab ,the cost is about $10 each way,so try to hook up with someone and share the cost.
