Took the ferry last time and saw folks whipping over to St. Johns from St. Thomas in less time. Any info on where to find them and how can you get around St. Johns if you're not on a cruise sponsored excursion?
I really don't understand the first part of your question, but I will try to give some answers.
We took a taxi to Red Hook and took the ferry from there over to St. John, where we got on another taxi which took us to Trunk Bay. The driver stopped at the "required" photo ops where I took a great picture of Trunk Bay. There were taxis waiting to take people back to the pier after we were through with our time at the beach.
the water taxi leaves Red Hook Harbor in St. Thomas every hour on the hour, you dock at Cruz Bay - grab a cab - they are open jitney types and head out to the beaches. go to www.vinow.com for information on beaches, schedules etc. There is also a water taxi that leaves from downtown Charlotte-Amalie, much less frequently than Red Hook Harbor.
It takes about 30 minutes to get from Red Hook to Cruz Bay
