Default Questions about Nassau

We will be cruising to the Bahamas in March. I had a couple of questions about things to do.

I read that a good way to see Nassau is to get a horse and carriage and tour the town. Has anybody done this? I know you negotiat the price, about how much should a person pay for this?

Also, we were thinking of getting a Taxi and going to Cable Beach. Is this a public beach or do we need to be a registered guest at a hotel? And if we take a taxi will there be taxi's at the beach to take us back to the ship?

Any advice anyone has would be appreciated.

Done the horse and buggy. It is fun but it shows you only a very small part of Nassau.

Four of us hired a cab and took a tour of the island. It was a neat way to see the other side that the tourists dont see (like homes, etc). It was very informative-talking about costs of living, gas, way of life, etc. Our driver even let us tour the fort that is there too.

I walked the town and enjoyed the shops and the food. Laid back and unhurried that way.

Alison1170, how did you get a taxi tour? Did you just find a driver and negotiate a price? I've been to Nassau but have only seen what's right down town. I would like to see more of Nassau and your taxi tour sounds great.

Nikki - you hire a cab right at the dock, hire them for a few hours or for the entire day, negotiate a flat rate upfront, and ask for an island tour. I would ask your purser for a general idea of how much you should pay.

don't bother with the cab to cable beach...simply get into town ( walk a few steps) Ask anyone for the bus stop....its right in town near haagan daz. take the bus up west bay road to cable beach..it's only 1 dollar and there are great people to talk to.. Or take the bus to the zoo, the bus is cheap and the zoo is free. Have a great time what ever you do.
