What is there to do at Half Moon Cay? If we don't book an excursion can we just go on the island and have a beach day?
You be you can ! I booked 2 tours( a walk and a glass bottomed boat) but wished I had simply hung out on the beach and gone swimming. Half Moon Cay is a GREAT beach day.

We spent our day eating at the buffet, lounging on the beach and wading around in the water. It was awesome! They even had some guys with drinks wading out into the water and serving them! Such pampering. We rented a Clamshell and it was roomy enough for 2. We'd go there to replenish the suntan lotion or just rest.
This is such a great beach. The first week of April will be our therd time there. This time we rented one of the wooden cabanas. I didn't want any tours, just the beach.
The first we went to Half Moon Cay, 1999, it was an island privately owned by HAL. I arranged for a "Renewal of Marriage Vows" ceremony at the chapel on the beach - to be different from the Captain's ceremony. My husband cried; nuff said. (it was our 25th anniv).
Anyway, the Cay is breathtaking in itself. Do not book any tours that day! Do not miss going to this beach. It is secluded from all other landmasses and you must be tendered to dock from the ship. There is a buffet area, a refreshment bar, etc. You can rent water-related equipment, or just walk to the far end of the beach (to the right of the entrance) and just do your own thing! There are palm trees, lounge chairs, etc. You can walk into the water forever and still be up to your waistline! It's calm, and turquoise and warm and wonderful!
Many cruise lines now share this miniature paradise point......you won't regret the decision to go there! Enjoy to the max!

Do the beach. This is the most beautiful beach. You can rent a clamshell, and they also have cabanas, which if you want, can include butler service. We did that when we were there in April. You get to pick out a meal, all the drinks you want, a fruit plate, soda, water, I was queen for a day.
Did the Glass Bottom Boat Tour was okay but this is the most beautiful beach to go see. Just find a nice spot, swim, lay out and chill with your drink. Enjoy the beauty of the Bahamas!
