Default Grand Cayman

Would like to spend the day at a beach while in Grand Cayman and although I know about 7mile beach....there are many diff beaches included in 7 mile beach. Wondered if I could get some info (pos or neg) on any beaches people have been to recently...(like costs, ammenities, distance?) Thanks

cretcatny,

The rumors of dirt along seven mile beach are greatly exaggerated.

Seven mile beach is really only 5 1/2 miles long, but its whole length is white sand so it's truly world class and usually not crowded. Most of it is lined with resort hotels that have beachfront bars and restaurants. The whole beach open to the public, but the chairs and lounges belong to the hotels and are reserved for their guests.

There is at least one decent beach facility that rents lockers and that provides other services, including rest rooms and beach chairs, for day visitors. IIRC, the taxi fare to the beach facility is about $10.

Be sure to allow some time in your schedule to browse through the shops located right across the street from the tender pier in George Town. The local shops have merchandise of superior quality to what you will find in most other ports, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the merchandise. While there, be sure to stop by the rum cake stand for some free samples. Their coconut rum cake is my persoonal favorite!

Norm.
