We are going to Ocho Rios in Sept 06; can't decide on the shore excursion; rafting down the Martha Rae or river tubing. We are in our late 30's and both like a little excitement, but don't what to do "white waters" for any length of time - i.e. for the entire time we are on the water. Has anyone done both shore excursions and what is the best? I want to see some scenary, relax, but have some exciting moments along the way, but don't want to be stressed out from having to hold on to the tubes, etc.
the river tubing tour is not white water rafting, that is another trip all together. We took the rafting tour which is very relaxing, you don't have to do a thing, you sit on cushion W/back support on these long bamboo rafts, while your river guide gently poles you along, it is very scenic, gorgeous, there was a stop for swimming, they provided sandwiches, and we even got to experience the local women doing their wash in the river, and the kids bathing, they were so nice, and friendly, they waved hello, they didn't bother us at all, unlike some of the other locals. we encountered quite a few tubers along the way, they looked like they were having a blast also. The tubes have wooden bottoms to support your bum, you get a paddle(i think) and you just float down the river at your leisure. We are going to do the river tubing/Dunns River falls tour on our upcoming cruise on the Freedom of the Seas.
