Default What to do in Montego Bay?

We will be cruising to the southern Caribbean in February on the Sea Princess. The shore excursions for our cruise are now available on the Princess website, but there are not many offered for Montego Bay and none of those appeal to us. We've never been there before, so have no ideas of what to do on our own.
Could some of you who have been there on a cruise make suggestions of things to do. A shopping expedition would be okay if nothing else sounds good. But we have no idea if there is even a shopping area near the pier. Or maybe there is a beach not too far from the pier.
We are only there from 7 am till 2 PM, so don't want to go too far from the ship if we can avoid it.
Thanks for any input of suggestions.

Not much in the way of shopping by the pier. We booked the canapy tour there and it was great, you may want to think about that. You have to book it through the cruiseline, but it was totally thrilling and a great way to spend the day in Montego Bay.

You can spend the day at Margeritaville, take a tour of the plantations, spend the day at one of the hotel's beaches, river rafting, river tubing, Dunns River Falls is available its a bit of a ride from Montego Bay, but its alot of fun. The canopy tour as Donna suggested

Stay safely on board the ship! That would be my advice unless you can spend the day at an all inclusive. Safety is a big issue to me in Jamaica.

After reading a lot of the posts about Jamaica, we will DEFINITELY book a tour through RCI!

We're going to be in MoBay and while the Canopy Tour sounds great, a few in my group are not thrilled with zip lines or heights. So unless some others and I split off, and do the canopy trip, we were thinking about doing one of the plantation tours.

Any reco's on which plantation to visit?

I think as long as you do some kind of excursion or even take a cab to Margaretteville, you should be fine. There is really nothing around the cruise port to do on your own.

From what I understand, the Rose Hall Plantation Tour is HAUNTED! I can't wait to take a taxi to this place and check it out. Sounds like a blast! We'll be doing that before we go to Doctor's Cave Beach, where it is only a $5 entrance fee!

We are also doing the Rose Hall tour. If you would like to read about the plantation before you go there is a book called "The White Witch Of Rose Hall" If you can't find it where you live, they sale them in the terminal shopping area.
