Default Sapphire Beach or Trunk Bay?

We were all set to go to Trunk Bay, but a friend of mine said to go to Sapphire beach for snorkeling and then we would have a lot more time to see Charlotte Amalie. She said if we go to Trunk Bay, we would take up most of our time taking taxis and ferries. She said the snorkeling is just as nice at Sapphire Beach and they have more amenities (like a nice restaurant, bar, beach chairs, etc.) Any comments on this?

How long are you in port for? If youre there all day (8-6ish) then you have plenty of time to hit both beaches. Sapphire beach is on the east end of St Thomas...and so are the ferries to St John. As for getting to Sapphire Beach, take the bus! They are a lot cheaper than a taxi. Ask the locals where the bus stop is, and be persistant since they dont want to tell you. From the cruise pier...walk to the left. Its about a 10-15 minute walk, but depending on how many people are in your group its worth the money saved ($2 each compared to $7/$8 each for a taxi). We walked from Sapphire Beach to the ferry docks, and it is a long walk!! Also, there are buses on St John that will take you to Trunk Bay for about $2 each.

So spend the am at Sapphire Beach, then head over to Trunk Bay in the afternoon, and then shop around Charlotte Amalie in the late afternoon before heading back onboard.

We always leave the ship as soon as it docks and head over to St. John. The trip is worth the effort. You will get to see some of St. Thomas furing the taxi ride to the ferry and the ferry ride is very nice and relaxing. We always like to sit up on the top deck and enjoy the beautiful water.

It is a matter of what you want to do and see. You can also take a tour of St. John....... There are many cab drivers who are available for tours. I love St. John and you will too....

Enjoy your cruise
