Default Question about dolphin encounter at Chanankaab Park, Cozumel

My 16 yr. old son would like to do the Royal Swim with dolphins in Chanankaab Park in Cozumel. If he went on his own, can we be right there to watch the encounter, take pictures, etc.... or are we unable to get near enough to view everything??? I have no clue how secluded the dolphin area is.....
Thank you.

First of all, Chakanaba is beautiful, don't miss it. There are cabs lined up that will take you there. The dolphin area is right next to the area where there is a beach and you can snorkel. If you snorkel near the dolphin area, there are tons of fish, they hang out there waiting for food to float out of the dolphin area.

From what I remember, the dolphin area is not all that secluded and you should have no problem watching your son, who by the way will love it.

Have fun! It's a great place.

Thanks for #1 asking this question and #2 for answering it!

My body isn't made for swimsuits anymore so I'll be the observer of the family while Dh takes the two kids in with the dolphins.

I had been wondering the same thing!

I just got back a few weeks ago from Chakanaab and did the swimming with the dolphins and yes you can watch you son and take pictures. I really enjoyed swimming with the dolphins it was very fun and we had lots of time to interact with the dolphins. They also have photographers that take really great pictures and you can purchase a video of it as well.

Default which package

World Cruiser,
Which package did you choose? Any regrets? Anything you would have done differently? How long were you at the park?
Thanks

Beth,

We actually did the Dolphin Encounter which was very nice. You really did get to interact with the dolphin quite a bit. Their were only 4 people in our group that day. No we did not have any regrets. The dolphin trainer was excellent. The only problem was when we bought the pictures and DVD. We did not realize that the DVD that we bought in Mexico would not be compatible with our DVD player here in the US. So we contacted the Dolphin Discovery center and I think that we can get the DVD transfered to another DVD which would be compatible with our player. The pictures did come out very good at least. We were at the park for about 2 hours and then took a cab back to the ship and went shopping in town.

We did the encounter in February. You should count on an hour by the time you get out of the enclosure. Then they take you in to see the video of your group so about another 20 minutes by the time you get out. Then if you are going to buy the video and /or pictures they have taken another 10 minutes or so. You also need time to change. The cab ride back is 15 or 20 minutes. There are lots of cabs.

We have now done this Encounter and had a BLAST!

The cab ride from the ship cost us $10 for four people and took maybe 10 minutes one way. Traffic zipped right along, lol.

Our scheduled time was 330 but with the time change it wouldn't work, so we called from the ship and were bumped to a 2pm Encounter. When we arrived we were scheduled for NOON, how perfect! Enjoyed the rest of the day at the park.

VERY nice new facility, thanks to the hurricanes. If you order lunch, go for the burritos. They are not on the menu but wonderful!!!!

As of late March the sea lions enclosure wasn't finished but close.

Just our two bits

Do you have to book ahead of time or can this be done upon arrival?

I would book ahead so you know 1) you have the chance to participate and 2) you have TIME to do the encounter.

Have to remember "ship time" is different than "local time".

We book directly thru Dolphin Discovery and saved about $100. Very pleasant to do business with

Hi...
I'm the original "poster" of this message and we just returned this past weekend from our cruise...my 16 year old son and husband DID the "Royal Swim" with Dolphin Discovery and immediately after announced to me that
"I don't think I'll ever do anything again in my life as cool as that was!"
From my husband...."The Royal Swim was the best..."
Well worth the money.....truly, a one-time experience!
I'm only sorry now that I didn't book for myself.

We watched but did not do it. It looked fun.
