Tulum Ruins & Xel-Ha Park

Hello fellow cruisers,

Can anyone that has taken this excursion tell me if there are any oppurtunities to get food anywhere during the excursion. It doesn't say in the discription of the tour if there are any places to get food. The tour is about 8 hours long, there must be some place to get something to eat while on the tour. Please help!! :?: Rick

Not to worry, there are restaurants at Xel-Ha. As I remember they are good. You will really love this park if you snorkle. If you do not, you should try it here. It is like swimming in an aquarium.

Have not been to Xel-Ha but Tulum is amazing. You can swim on the beach with the ruins right over your shoulder. There is a souvenier shop where you can get snacks, not sure about real food as we weren't looking for that. Enjoy! LOL

There is also a rest stop before arriving to Tulum where you can buy snacks, then many stores including Subway are available at Tulum itself, no food available or allowed inside the Ruins area though. Then many stores and restaurants available in Xel-Ha. Also snacks are available on the ferry ride to the mainland and back to the island. Good luck

Thanks for the replies,

We are going to be there the day of April 20. We are traveling on the Rhapsody of the Seas from Galveston. This will be our first RCCL cruise. Have 5 previous Carnival's and 1 Norwegian. thanks again, Rick

Most of the tour operators will have a lunch for you already.

Mehawk, did you just get back from the Ecstasy?
Any thoughts on the improvements since Katrina?

some cruise lines offer lunch on this tour, this is right, but please be aware of that it is a snack lunch and by no means a real lunch, actually some of the snack lunches have a muffin, chips, juice and a cereal bar....dont count on the snack lunch provided, for hungry stomaches, there is plenty available at Xel.Ha, still at a reasonable price of quality. good luck

We just got back from the Tulum tour through carnival and there was no lunch provided only a snack. We ate a big breakfast and had no problem making it back to the ship at 3 for lunch. Carla ;)

Carla, how long did you get at Xel-Ha? Did you go to Xel-Ha first or Tulum? We are doing this cruise 4/28 and I really want to go to Xel-Ha but really don't want to include Tulum. Thanks

Sherri

Our tour is through RCCL. It says 3 hours at Talum and 2 hours Xel-Ha. This does not include travel times. It states 45 minutes each way by ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and then 45 minutes each way by bus to Talum and back. The total time for the tour is about 8 to 8.5 hours!

I have done this tour twice--once on Song of America and once on VOS. It is a long excursion but well worth it. There is a long walk from where the bus drops you off to the start of the tour in Tulum. It was very hot and I would suggest that you bring bottled water with you on this tour and your hats.

We didn't have much time at Xel Ha. Remember that you are on ships time and not the local time there is a time difference. \

Our tour guide instructed us to be back at the bus at a certain time so that we could catch the ferry and meet back up with our cruise ship.

Five passengers weren't back on time and the guide went looking for them. He was able to located three passengers but we did end up leaving two passengers behind in Xel ha. This was a ship sponsored event.

It was up to the passengers to catch back up with the ship.
