Default Tendering timings in Belize

In answer to some queries on the subject, Belize is a tendering port, with the cruise ships anchoring about 6 miles away from the city, but in pretty calm water mostly. Tenders carry from 80 to 200 passengers and are covered, very comfortable, safe, and very fast - 15 minutes average from ship to shore. The tourism village where the tenders dock is beautiful, with four terminals a couple hundred feet from each other, and great shopping. There is also a fabulous "flea" market outside the terminals with a huge variety of goodies. This is where the taxi drivers abound and are pretty insistent. If you are not looking for a tour or a taxi, just say so, and that you are just shopping. All in all, Belize is a great port, with excellent shore tours and even more excellent marine activity such as snorkeling, diving, fishing, and a dolphin encounter. The combo Maya Ruins and river wildlife tour is first class, but the most popular tour has to be cave tubing. Lots of companies on the net offering independent tours at far far less than you pay onboard (between $35 to $65). ***edited to remove advertising***

We were there just 2 months ago and you are right on the mark. Good review!

How long does it take to get off the ship when tendering? If you have an excursion that starts at 8:30 or 9 do you get off 1st? We have never had to tender in and don't know how it works?

If you booked your excursion with Carnival they will let you off in time. You should be fine with that time.

Default Tendering in Belize

Once you check with the shore excursions manager from the day before your tour, you'll get fairly easy answers on what to do, when, and where. The important thing, if you are taking a non-ship excursion, is to go by the stairwell, which leads down to the tendering area of the ship, and catch the first "walkies" group as they start tendering - don't sit around some hall waiting to be called out. Having said that, the ships are fairly good at getting everyone off in time, wether you bought a tour on board or a private, independent tour. Some friends very fondly told the shorex they had bought a tour NOT sold on board, and needed to be off ASAP. That seemed to work - ah well - gotta have some fun!!! Maybe you CAN get the private tour operator to write you the details of the tour, so the shorex can see for himself. You gotta try something!!!!!! Otherwise, get up early, paddle your canoe, and go for the earliest tender!!! Oh - one other thing - apparently, there is a tender that leaves every ship much earlier than all the others, with local and ship officials (shore party) on board and a tiny few others on some activity or the other - and those tenders usually carry anything from 80 to 125 passengers, and rarely have more than 30 or so on board - why don't you try for that baby???
