Default Xcaret or Xel-Ha

Hello!
I will be in Calica in August and was wanting to know
which of these two places ( Xcaret or Xel-Ha ) is the better
place to go?
We are a family of 4, kids ages 16 & 13. We can be
adventurous, but sometimes some of us like to drag our
feet. We would like to go to a place that will be well worth
our money.
Would anyone suggest that you eat at these places or
go back to the ship? We will be in port from 9:30 to 6pm.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I can only offer my impressions of Xcaret. It was a fantastic place with swimming pool, beach, a great jungle river tubing excursion, and a true Mexican restaraunt set next to a ring that provided a fascinating exhibition of Mexican equestrian events that was unique. A day well spent in my opinion.

As a ship excursion, I would recommend Xcaret. It is a great place with many attractions and activities, food is great as well. Depending on the cruise line, the Xel-Ha place is only offered as a combo with Tulum Mayan Ruins, which unfortunately does not allow much time to spend at Xel-Ha. The Xcaret excursion leaves you 4-5 hours inside the park..well worth time and money. Also, Xcaret is only 5 minutes from Playa del Carmen and Xel-Ha is 45minutes, which saves on transportation and travel time.

We have been to Cancun six times and went to Xel-Ha once on the
Tulum tour. It is very beautiful but not a lot to do. Xcaret on the other
hand we have been to every time we visit Cancun and it is awesome.
Also very beautiful with lots to do for everyone. I wish I were there now.

I keep reading these boards
and hear yeah & nay on both.
I think I am going to have to
let the girls make up my mind.

We have been to both Xel-Ha and Xcaret and they both offer a beautiful, relaxing and lush tropical atmosphere with hammocks, but I would say that if I had to choose which one I like better, I would choose Xcaret.

Xel-Ha is good for snorkeling and is considered to be the "world's largest natural aquarium".

Xcaret has more to offer, from a swim through the underground tunnels to the beach, dolphin encounters, snorkeling, marine life, animals, shows and mayan ruins! The food is good too, so you don't have to go back to the ship for lunch.

I have been to Xel-Ha twice and each time it was in conjuction with an excursion to Tulum. I agree with Deby that there isn't as much to do in Xel-Ha as there is in Xcaret. We will visit Xcaret again in July with our 3 boys (ages 8, 12 and 15) and are looking forward to it!

I'm disabled and cannot walk very far at a time but I would LOVE to go to Xcaret to se the flamingos, rain forest, and exotic birds. Does a person have to walk or is there some sort of transportation available inside of the park?
I do know the mayan ruins are out of the question, but how about the underground tunnels to the beach, maybe I could float on an tube? I can walk some but due to cancer I had a hip replacement with unusal problems.
Thank you for any and all replies.
