Default Where to eat in St maarten - French or Dutch side

We plan to explore both sides of the island but plan on having lunch out. Which side of the island has amazing food, something I normally wouldn't get in Michigan? And specific restaurants that are your favorites? Thanks, Carla

It has been a couple of years, but we liked Le Petite Auberge in Marigot on the French side. Cafe St Germaine is also good and La Vi En Rose is top of the line (I am not sure if they are open for lunch).

I forgot which side it was on, maybe Marigot, but its a huge downtown area right on a large Marina with lots of shops, restaurants, etc.

It was also where Speed 2 was filmed when it smashed into the island at the end of the movie. Our tour guide explained the whole thing.

Another cool thing to check out - the airport landing strip. You can see the video's on YouTube.com, but the landing strip is right on the beach so you get to see a large commercial airliner (American, 747's, etc) land a plane about 10 feet above your head. Folks got some good video from the restaurant that's right there. They also take-off from there as well.

! Thanks. Actually I avoid Google. Lots of other good search engines out there.

I've always had a knack for finding stuff. Took me 5 minutes to find info on a client a lawyer had been spending weeks on.

Plus I have lots of time on my hands. Only 4 more weeks of recovery at home for my neck surgery. I'm getting a little stir crazy and helping folks here is good therapy!

Check the restroom first--we ate at one of the ones mentioned above--in Marigot--a cute cafe type place with decent food...after we ate I went into the ladies room----how awful it was!--there was a hole in the side of the bldg--could see out & it was tres filthy!

I'd be really interested to know which of those restaurants "mentioned above" was the guilty party.

there are so many options!

Philipsburg: You can eat at one of the restaurants on the boardwalk, outdoors and with views of the water. My favorites are Indigo restaurant, Holland House and Passangrahan.

Marigot: There are lots of restaurants at the Marina, nice ambiance and good food. Belle Epoque, Don Camillo and St. Germaine are great.

Grand Case: this is worth it if you can make time, lots of very good restaurants, amazing french cuisine, le cottage is one of my faves. Also, you can try the lolos: outdoor seating and traditonal island bbq ribs and seafood and chicken with sides like plantain and johnny cake.
