Default Ft. Lauderdale Everglade tours ?

Just booked the 4/20/08 Panama trip with Celeb Mille and we need to arrv a day early from CA so was wondering if anyone has taken an Everglade Tour and could give me the scoop. Will also need a hotel w/shuttle srvc, viewed some horror stories on Tripadvisors. These forums are so valuable. Thanks much.

I have done the Everglades excursion twice, both times after my cruise. I recommend it. Basically it's an air-boat ride through the Everglades where you will see wildlife such as alligators.
As for hotels, do be careful and do homework. I booked one called Red Carpet Inn in Fort Lauderdale only because it was under $100 last year. BIG mistake Hopefully, it is under new management by now.

Thanks..do you remember who you used for your everglades tour..there are so many to choose from....as for the hotel since we will be there over a weekend we are at their mercy but I am researching and am glad I started my inquiries early..the Red Carpet was a contender, ..am narrowing it down, and as soon as I get the rental car worked out, which is another chapter,...will make final decision.

Both times I rode the air-boat, I booked on the ship. First time=Holland America in 02, second was last year on Carnival. Can't remember where we went into the Everglades in 2002, but last year the tour went through "Everglades Holiday Park" Fort Lauderdale. Phone is 1-800-226-2244
I certainly don't wish to mislead anyone ! There is a chance that Red Carpet Inn has improved, but in February of last year it was basically "the hood". Bad service ( they forgot me at the airport, a crackhead was yelling profanities in the lobby, TV was broken, TV repairman came in cursing out the maids, front desk totally apathetic) and the only place to eat was a bar. NOTHING within walking distance. In May of this year I ask the local coach driver if Red Carpet was still bad and she said yes.

THANK YOU...info most helpful. Red Carpet was only one of many on my list which I have been systematically eliminating by reviews and other reasons i.e. location. While $ not the main factor I don't like to over pay but at the same time want to rest/sleep without too many problems. Still debating wether to rent a car from the AP or use shuttle service from hotels then rent. Research is on going.

here are some tips on hotels:

Bahia Mar Ft Lauderdale beach - check their website; they have deals throughout the year; although April may be a "season" price.

Sheraton Yankee Clipper Beach Hotel - comes highly recommended - I haven't stayed there YET! - I have been booked there for some weekend getaways that I had to cancel at last minute

the Lago Mar; pricey but absolutely wonderful; however, they don't take cash; everything and I mean absolutely everything has to be charged to your credit card; nice putt-putt golf course and plenty of activities at this resort

Hard Rock; a blast if you are not travelign with kids

-====================now for budget minded:

Best Western Inn - Oceanside

Hampton Inn ft Lauderdale Airport North

there are many run down airports right near the port that I would stay away from.
