We will be on the Crystal Symphony in November traveling through the Panama Canal, ending up in Costa Rica. Lots of guys at my hubby's office think we're CRAZY to go through the canal. They say it's unsafe! Anyone heard anything about safety. BTW, we are not stopping in Panama - but we will do a full transit. Please advise. I can't believe Crystal Cruise Lines or any one else for that matter, would run a cruise in unsafe territory.
It's fine. I went there for my honeymoon and it was wonderful. Panama itself is said to be somewhat unsafe, but we got off as did many others and there was nothing to worry about. I think people fear what they do not know.

a full canal-transit is an awesome experience. The cruise lines would not go there if it wasn't safe. Just know that it is hot, hot,hot and oppressively humid going thru the canal. Make sure you drink lots of WATER, wear a HAT and lots of sunscreen.
We did the canal about 8 years ago on Premier line,We only went in to Gaton lake which we had a great time.In April we are booked on RCCL for the full canal cruise and we are so excited .
I have never heard or experienced problems during a Canal transit. The only bad rep recently in that area was a privately booked tour in Costa Rica was ransacked by bandidos.

That's like saying, "the only bad rap on Dr. Mulligan is that one time he accidentally killed a child during a routine checkup."
