Officially reopened Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow in Rothschild Francis Square, better known as Market Square.
The bungalow is named for Sanderilla "Sandy" Thomas, one of the market women who not only made the place so productive as a central location for trade, socializing and gossip, but were essential authority figures as matriarchs of their households and rulers of the marketplace.
She spent more than 50 years of her life selling fruits, herbs and provisions under the bungalow, and in April 1984, Gov. Alexander Farrelly signed into law Act No. 4928 renaming it in her honor.
