Default Cartagena Columbia - safety issues?

Hi all,

We are booked for 11-nite Carib. on Constellation, end of Nov. I have seen posts on the boards about Colon, Panama. Does not seem exploring on my own is advisable, but what about Cartagena? Book ship tour in these two ports or just stay in the pier area?

It seems - hopefully -the other ports are ok (Aruba/Cozemel/George Town). Since the ship is my priority for picking a cruise, I won't be terribly upset to stay on or close to the ship for Panama and Columbia.

Thanks!

NonaMary

Cartagena is not an area to be wandering around by yourself. I put it in a similar place to Kingston, Jamaica, and Guadalajara, Mexico. I would stay close to the ship and only go on cruise line arranged excursions.

Subtropic,
Thanks for the reply. Guess that is another port I will not be visiting! Happy travels!

Sorry but subtropic is completely wrong here. Cartagena is 100% safe and I have been there often. It is a tourist city and Colombia keeps it safe because it is the ONLY city cruise ships visit to pump money into a touristy economy.

So get off the ship and walk around it's a beautiful city with beautiful people. Please dont listen to this guy...
