Default San Juan Airport/ Southern Caribbean Cruise Questions

About to book our cruise for Southern Caribbean in March. Cruise leaves from San Juan. Airfare quoted by travel agent is $$$$. Found cheaper on own saving $449.60 over her price. These are my questions:
1. How far is the San Juan airport from ship pier? What are taxi
rates?

2. We're not sure which airport in San Juan to select, as there are multi-listings?

2. Know anything about these cabins on Deck 9: RC SERENADE OF SEAS 9034/9640/9648/9654/9254/9658?

Hi 2Sailors....Me and my Dh have flown to San Juan twice and we will be going there for a third time this October. Another option you may want to consider when flying into San Juan, you may want to fly in the day before your cruise just in case their are connecting issues with your airline.

1. How far is the San Juan airport from ship pier? What are taxi
rates? The ship pier is only 15 minutes away from the airport....and the taxi rate is usually only $6.00-8.00pp...but you can always have your Travel Agent inculde transfers in your cruise....and that would include a person from the cruise-line there to pick you up at the airport and a ride to and from the ship....but usually it's cheaper to not to book the transfer and to use the dozen or so taxis that line up outside the airport.

2. We're not sure which airport in San Juan to select, as there are multi-listings? The airport you would fly into in San Juan is Luis Munoz Mar Dulles International.

3. Know anything about these cabins on Deck 9: RC SERENADE OF SEAS 9034/9640/9648/9654/9254/9658? Sorry I can't help you with this one...never been on this ship.

4. Regarding airfare....we always book our own airfare when we cruise whether it's to San Juan or any other destination. The cruise-line always is higher and they don't always give you the best itinerary because they book airfare in bulk to get a cheaper rate through the airlines. We've booked before through cheaptickets.com and sometimes right through the specific airline it's self. We are only paying $378.00pp thats including taxes when we fly October 26, 2007...I would keep an eye on several different websites regarding airfare because there are many different specials you can find.

P.S. There are many great hotels beach front if you decide to fly in the day before your cruise. If you would like any additional info please feel free to contact me by email scarroll1@nycap.rr.com or you can post here on CM.
Good Luck on your findings and have a wonderful cruise!

Jessie

The commercial airport is on the opposite side of the city from the piers, most of which are in Old San Juan. Taxi fares are about $25 each way.

There are two airports, but only the new one has commercial flights. The airport designator is SJU in the airline reservation systems.

I have not cruised with Royal Caribbean, but those cabins should be fine.

Norm....If you paid $25.00 each way for a taxi you got ROBBED!!! We've never paid close to that and we've been there twice and going again in October.

Also have never paid $25 for a cab to the pier. Depending on your time concerns, there is a hotel right at the AA terminal at the airport. We have used it a couple of times. No great amenities but very convenient. Two years ago we got airfare with Jet Blue from NYC to San Juan non stop for $69 each way (in january !) You will probably never see fares that low again, but it pays to shop around.

We've done RCI Southerns out of San Juan 8 times, with a 9th coming up in January. We always book our own air. The airport code is
SJU. We usually book an aft D1, but we did have a starboard mid-ships D1 last year, since our son was with us and the afts only accomodate 2 passengers. The cabin was spacious, and find for the 3 of us; we missed the oversized balcony we have in the aft cabins. There would have been plenty of space on the aft balcony for all three of us at once, not so on the side.

Our favorite excursions are in Antigua - Eli's EcoTour and Xtreme Circumnav. These are both full-day excursions on power boats, and are unique - you can't find anything like either one of them anywhere else on this itinerary. www.adventureantigua.com

Actually he's right. The taxi cabs break down their rates by Zones. It's not a per mile charge like it is here in the States.

I think we paid about $18 or $20 for both, and they also charge you for luggage as well. So $25 one way would be correct.

FYI as a piece of info, if you decide to fly down a day prior, keep this in mind. ANY hotel that has a casino will be more expensive to stay at vs. a hotel that doesn't have one. I have a co-worker that lives in PR.
