Plop down in and around Margaritaville. There's a beach, pool, overpriced drinks, what else is there ? Not much of a historic or scenic island compared to others, so relax and enjoy !

There are plenty of things to do on grand turk. and as for jewellry shops. we have a little switzaland and 2 goodmark stores. along with 2 local jewellry shops. jai's and goldsmith. both with an excellent range. as for things to do. other than staying in the complex. there is the lighthouse park at the other end of the island. nice for a realxing walk around and great views of the north end of the island. there down town. its got the national muesum there, along with the old prison now opened as a tourist attraction. my thought is for you to rent a taxi for 2 hours and take a look over the whole island. the drivers here are very knowledgable. and more than willing to offer a cheap rate for 2 or 4 people. and you wont be disserpointed. when you get back to the center there about 20 shops. and as mentioned a margaritaville for your drinking pleasure. my suggestion is to walk a further 50 meters down the beack to the "white sands resort" and head in there for a "cheaper" drink. and perhaps some local conch fritters or conch soup or salad. i hope you enjoy your day on the island. all else fails look for russell in the welcome center as you walk through the duty free store.
i love to read people advise about islands they have visited for only 4 or 6 hours. and saying there isnt anything really there of "histoic" interest. if you might remember john glenn landed his friendship 7 spacecraft just off the beach here in grand turk. and ..... according to many christopher columbus made is first siteings of land on grand turk. that can be very questionable. but a visit to the "national museum" of the Turks & Caicos Islands in downtown Cockburn Town and iam sure that will be sorted out. the museum is concidered one of the best in the caribbean. if you do want something to do for the day. take a local taxi for a day trip of the island. remember the island is only 7 miles long by 1 mile wide. so its not an all day thing. generally 2 hours if you stop for a drink here or there. and a few photos stops. and the local taxi guys here are wonderfully knowledgable. i hope you take time to leave the "cruise center" and see what Grand Turk has to offer more than just a bar with a name on the front ( be it a bar the guy has never even visited since it opened) Russell
The Turks Museum is certainly NOT one of the best in the Caribbean. I suppose it all depends on one's knowledge and standards. Bermuda, the Dutch islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao all good historical places, but I think most people want to go to the beach, have a rum punch or two, shop the local markets and possibly eat some local food. They can get a book out of the library for historical facts e.g. John Glenn! A ride around the island on a scooter is $40. and you get to see wild dogs!!!
Cockburn Town is hardly worth spending time in. Vacation time costs big money so every minute counts. The Bohio Resort has a vast variety of watersports, excellent beach and many other things to do which are safe.
