When you dock in Nassau, you get the most amazing view of this beautiful resort. The architecture, while a bit Disney~esque, just amazes me. The Dig, the Lost Atlantis tour is really unique, and well worth seeing.
The pool slides are high and long, and, part of the amazing pools that just boggle the mind.
The hotel is beautifully appointed with, amazing glass art ,by artist Dale Chihouly. They are just incredible!
The casino and shops are top of the line, and for many a change from the straw market..For sure, an expensive place to stay, but for a day trip on a cruise...quite enjoyable.

In addition to all things brought up by previous posters, there is also a great stretch of beach out front that is very attractive. To me it is the nicest place in the area.

I just got back from a short week at Atlantis for a Rotary district convention. In short: the beach is large and sugar sand, the aquariums are incredible - and the prices are unbelivable!! US$4.00 for a regulation can of coke?? $11.50 for a burger and fries? Even the Bahamians were exclaiming that they'd never paid so much for a cup of coffee in their lives. The regular (non-group discount) room rate is atrocious and most of the restaurants seemed to be $50+ per person - or else in the $7 pizza slices and $11 sandwiches range. I and my secretary elect went to a small grocery store and bought bread, peanut butter, sodas, etc. I also found the decor to be more South Florida kitch than impressive, but fake temples etc. do not appeal to me.
There is a (small) waterpark there, best for people who don't have a full-sized one within driving distance of home. Other than the aquarium and the waterpark if you are into it, there are as nice but much cheaper beaches in the area, such as Cable Beach. If you really want to see Atlantis, day trip it with picnic supplies.
what kind of excursions are available to the atlantis, we'll be in nassau with our 3 college aged children for a 24 hour stay (*cruise ship fascination). Are there snorkle trips, what else ?
its a 5-star resort with 5-star prices. It is gorgeous, The Dig is amazing, the glass-blown sculptures in the casino are amazing, the hotel is emmaculate. Check out the ships excursion to Atlantis and see exactly what it offers, it is a bit pricey. If it includes the beach/waterslide area, hotel facilites and admission to Atlantis it just might be worth the $$. If it doesn't then just grab either a land or water taxi at the pier and head over there and take in 'The Dig". You used to be able to book a day room next door at the Comfort Inn? and have total access to all the facilites at Atlantis but i believe that has changed. A day room at Atlantis is very $$$$
You can also check out the alternative offered by Carnival Cruise Line ör better "edited" the mini submarine tour in cozumel...."edited for content"we did it and it was really a blast...your own mini submarine check ,
you drive your own submarine and no diving experience required...a blast! good luck-
