Sunset Beach Bar in St. Maarten Gone!

For anyone who has ever hopped over to Maho Beach by the airport and enjoyed the day at Sunset Beach Bar, just heard the sad news that it has closed and is in the process of being carted away piece by piece. I'm not exactly sure of the details but apparently the island has been trying to close them for some time, ostensibly to take the land. Stories are flying that they want to give it to a resort next door or that they are trying to 'upscale' the property to help the aforementioned resort owners. SSBB had appealed to the courts but just lost their appeal. Now they are appealing to the Hague as a last ditch effort but cannot ignore the vacate order while that appeal is in process. Very sad. It was a lot of fun and it was always a highlight to watch the airplanes almost land on the beach and the goofs who tried to stand behind them when they were taking off.
I'll really miss the place.

This really sux !!

I had a great time there.

I did see the video of them being robbed and wondered if they ever caught the robbers.

Can't see them building there with the flight path of the landing aircraft. Any stucture over 20 feet would be at risk there.
