Am still checking into excursions....
we stop in Colon.....my mom and I would like to take in the Panama Canal and actually be IN it rather than just SEE it....
Carnival offers an 8 hr. excursion...that, I guess, would probably take up our entire day. Am confused though...do you take a bus over to the Pacific coast, then go through the canal back to Colon?
Or is it you go through the Canal first, then make it back to Colon via bus? Does Carnival pack it in?
Any time to look through any flea markets/shops???
I did that tour through Carnival in 2006. I do recomend it !
It is a bit expensive, but hey...it IS the one and only Panama Canal.
We did get a chance to shop at the pier, but be advised DON'T venture beyond the secured area of Colon. Not by yourself at least.
From my vantage point, a ship sponsored tour is much safer here than doing one's own thing.
PAST TRIPS= Enchanted Capri
Carnival: Inspiration, Legend, Valor, Destiny, Holiday, Triumph, Splendor, Fantasy
HAL: Maasdam twice, Statendam, Oosterdam

ARe you all talking about the Train tour or the Ferry tour? We will be stopping at Fuerte Amador before actually going through the canal the next day. We are trying to decide if we want to do the train that takes you from the west side to the eastern side and then you come back by bus OR the ferry that actually takes you through the locks on the western side, into the lake and then back to the ship by bus. Anyone done either of these tours and if so - what are your comments?
