Default please, careful in guadeloupe

if your ship calls at guadeloupe, beware. on a very recent sunday, the ms maasdam docked at point-a-pitre. the town was dirty and deserted. the officials asked that the chaplain not even try to walk to the cathedral for Mass. a couple were mugged on the streets at gun-point; several other folks were intimidated by thugs. finally, all passengers were requested by officials to remain inside the barriers -- just a few kiosks right next to the ship. a passanger inquiring about future cruises was told that guadeloupe was 'off the map' for HAL and that another port would be substituted immediately. just my way of saying, beware.

Thanks for the warning and do agree! When we were there it was quite uncomfortable!

Normally we are quite happy and LOVE our ports of call in the Caribbean !

I have heard so many bad things about Martinique and Guadeloupe. I wonder if the cruise lines will ever change these ports to some friendlier ones. I love to see the world but would probably pass on these two places.

Default Travel Alert for Martinique and Guadaloupe

Anyone going to any of the French West Indies needs to read the travel alert issued a few days ago by the U.S. State Department: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...a/pa_4432.html
