We will be in Dominica in Jan./11 and would like to go whale watching. All of the tours I've researched seem to head out at 2:00 P.M. and return at sunset. As we are on a cruise ship that departs at 5:00 P.M. this wont work. Are there any tours that leave earlier and return in time to catch the ship?

Watch your available shore excursions, something may pop up there.

Just a warning that a lot of people don't see any & I didn't want you to waste your time, if you are interested I should think the ship will organise one if it is possible. Just trying to help.
I have done whale and dolphin watching through the ship and had very good success. I saw nine whales and many dolphins. My tour did either early morning or lunchtime tours. We chose the later one.
The only reason I booked this tour was because of all the sightings over the years from other passengers I had spoken to. And it was fabulous.
I looked into doing it independently but it was just a few dollars cheaper for a much smaller boat.
We went whale watching a few years ago. We were able to see 2 whales during for tour. But I was told that its not certain that you will see whales each time out. You have to be lucky.
Are there any excursons for whale watching through the ship. Since time is an issue, I think going through them may be the only way to safely do it and make it back on time.
Honestly, I have never heard of whale watching in the Caribbean, and it doesn't surprise me that there are no guarantees.
I assume that if they are running that tour they know where the whales have been sighted that day (although whales do move pretty fast).
The best whale watching in is Alaska in the summer or the west coast of Mexico off of Baja in the winter. Inside the Sea of Cortez is a common place and a prwetty sure thing.
If you do this and have success, please let us know.
It is important to note you don't see whales from a ship very often, so special tours are a good idea no matter where you are.
