It's been several years, but we felt safe.....the downtown shopping area then, was geared to locals, more than tourists, and was disappointing. I hope it has changed....The walk is long, [at least where my ship was docked] to the floating bridge, and town, with places along the way that offer tastings..especially the famous Blue Curacao.

Many islands claim to have the oldest Synagogue, and this island does the same..Due to my swollen foot, I never made it, but friends have said it was a pleasure to tour it.

Never felt threatened in any way, most impressed by the efficient way the ferries took over when they opened the bridge, we just wandered about after our little train ride, nice café's.

Have you toured the synagogue in Rhode Island that is supposedly the oldest or the one in Barbados ?

Yes, Henry, not a problem walking in that area...They even put in some small shops by the dock and places to sit and relax.

Default Touring Synagogue

Have toured both.. the one in Curacao to me at the time was emotional... sand on the floor..Many of the shops there had "pushkies" on their counters. The one in R.I. is the oldest in the country and within walking distance give or take from the tenders.

Last November '09 (Noordam) was our first visit to Curacao. We had an enjoyable day. Purchased some lovely blue diamonds (!!!) and also took a land cruise around the island via private car engaged at the pier, most enjoyable.

You will not be disappointed.

Henry, we took a wonderful "Jewish Curacao" tour when we were there. It went to the Jewish Cemetery, several homes, etc., and the Synagogue. PM me if you want more info.
