St John's Ferry?

We will be in St Thomas this march, I hear that the thing to do is ferry over to the smaller island of St John. Is this easy to do on our own? The excursions seem to be kinda pricy (like always). St John is mostly parkland? Is it easy to get to the National Park? I'm sure there is also shopping. Should we worry about missing the boat? Jimbo

The island is gorgeous, no question. If you snorkle, it's heaven. There is very limited shopping. I would say, if you don't snorkel, it will eat up time you could have spent sighteeing, and, shopping in downtown

If you can budget your time, save the shopping for St. Thomas when you get back. You can either ship by the pier or go downtown, the taxi from Red Hook can drop you off to shop. Just plan accordingly with time, etc.

I too will be in St.Thomas in March but having been there in the past I know there is more than enough things to do without going to St.John.

for us, St. John is a must-do, no matter how many times we go. Its all about time management. The ferry from Red Hook Harbor on St. Thomas leaves every hour on the hour. Cruz Bay in St. John has a few small shops thats about it. St. John is all about gorgeous beaches and snorkeling. There are quite a few really nice beaches to choose from. Trunk Bay is the most popular, it is gorgeous but tends to get a bit crowed, this is the destination beach for the cruise ship excursions. Pick your beach and just grab and open-air jitney cab at the pier.Save the shopping for St. Thomas proper
