Island hopping by ferry

I know there are a few ferries plying Caribbean waters such as between St. Thomas and St. John. Is there an extensive ferry system, a la the Aegean ferries, that one could use to island hop? Perhaps the distances are too far.

There are alot of ferries in the area, but due to time and distances, it would be difficult to 'island hop' if you're on a cruise and only have part of a day to complete the trip.

Thanks Pete,
I was wondering how possible it would be to do a "slow" cruise. Maybe fly to St. Lucia and make our way up to Antigua or St. Martin. That give us a chance to set our own itinerary without chartering a boat.

Just found this, at least from Martiniqur you can get to St. Lucia, Dominica and Guatalupe. Interesting. http://martinique-guide.info/getting...ies.and.boats/

You can do that if you want - there are ferries to just about every island as on some of them that is the only way to get there. May have to go a roundabout way to get where you want to go as there may not be a direct ferry. Just have to book hotels in each island and you'll definitely want to give yourself time to visit each island. Great vacation if you if you have the time and money, that's for sure!
