We have stayed at, and highly recommend the La Quinta which is fairly close to the airport. Very clean, new, rates at about $60 and the rooms are HUGE with walk-in closets the size of most other hotels. They do have a pool, nice views, and a small gym as well. Now if you are wanting to spend som time soaking in the local 'flavor' then you will need to look at something down on the beach near the downtown area. Quite nice down there.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Hollywood. Just a couple blocks south of the airport. They share property with Hampton Inn and they have a real nice pool and tropical setting. They also have a Continental breakfast with sausage gravy and scrambled eggs. The rooms have a refridge and microwave in them. They will set you back 56.00 per night. There is the shopping mall next door to property and a K mart. Also for a great evening, try the dinner cruise on the Jungle Queen. They take you down the river and you can look at all the homes owned by the rich and famous. There is an Island they take you too and have a bbq chicken and ribs and shrimp dinner with all the trim and goodies. Then they have an hour long vaudville show. Comedy and singing and so on. The cost is 25.00. Cash. No credit cards. You can make reservations on line before you go at www.junglequeen.com. Enjoy

Hi Mike,
U dont really say if u'd prefer to stay in Ft Laud. or Miami. Seeing as u have to board the ship in Miami, I'd recommend the Biscayne Bay Marriott. It's a very short taxi ride to Bayside Market Place, a fun spot to spend the evening, and the best part, book a pier view room, and u wake up in the morning with a wonderful view of the ships at the pier. For a first time cruiser I can think of a nicer thing to wake up to.
