My husband and I are sailing Oct. 15 on the Paradise Eastern Carribean, I am trying to figure our itinerary. We will be in St. Thomas 7a-6p we are planning to go to St.Johns and snorkel, what would be the best way to do this? Can we rent the snorkel gear on the island? Also what are the must do's in San Juan(9a-10p) and Nassau(7a-2p), we would prefer doing it on our own rather than shore excursions we enjoy shopping gambling and visiting landmarks. Thanks to everyone, only 22 days left!!!
Yes, they rent snorkel at Trunk Bay in St. Johns. You may want to consider just buying the gear at home, at least the mask and snorkel and just renting the fins.
Just a thought, they really don't take up that much space and they pretty much pay for themselves after a few uses, something to think about. I bought snorkel, mask and fins at our Sportmart for $50.00.
In Nassau you may want to take the water taxi or a regular taxi over to Paradise Island and visit Atlantis. I understand you pay $25.00 to look around the place.
The aquirium there is supposed to be something to see and they do also have a big casino. Hope you have a great trip on Paradise, Bon Voyage.
...In San Juan, there are a couple of old forts that can be interesting, if you enjoy that topic. You are in very close walking distance to the shops of Old San Juan. It's a nice walk around town.
...As previously posted, a short cab ride from Nassau will bring you to Paradise Island and Atlantis. If you enjoy gambling as much as my wife and I do, Atlantis has a casino that should not be missed. The place really hops at night! Very easy to hire a taxi on the dock, and again for the return trip from Atlantis back to the ship. There is no charge to enter the casino. I understand that they now charge to "view" the grounds of Atlantis. We did this a few years ago when there was no charge. The grounds are very nice, with a beach, pool, and a "walk-thru" shark/fish tank, but IMHO, not worth the $25 admission charge.
...Hope this helps...
Hi Deb, I'll be doing the Western Carib on the Paradise the week before you. St. John, beautiful snorkeling, swimming. Take the tram ride up the mountain near the pier in St. Thomas. Great view of the harbor, some unusual shops at the top of the tram ride. Catch the parrot show. In Nassau, if you are there on the weekend, when traffic is less congested (can you say, my HMO doesn't work in a foriegn land??) and you are the adventurous type, you can rent a scooter. Drive around the island. Visit the Bacardi factory on the other side of the island. Oh, you will be driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Not to be attempted by the faint of heart nor slow of reflexes. Week day traffic is a 'bear', rent a taxi; it's safer and you can negotiate a travel rate with most drivers. There will be a lot to walk through at the Atlantis, the wristband fee allows you to take pictures throughout the outside grounds. Just get some brochures from the front desk and save your money for the casino. Have a great trip!
