I left this same message over under Destinations, but it doesn't seem to get the same responds that this board gets. So if you've read this already and wondered where it came from and why, that's it!
This is going to be our first cruise and we are looking for a little help from others who have already made these stops before. I know everyone's taste and ideas are different, so I'm not asking for the "Hey, this is what you have to do" We'd like to get a wide over view of what would be the better points of interests and things to look for.
1. We'd like to go snorkling in Cozumel. Which one of the ships (Carnival) packages do you guys recommend, which one seems the better deal, should we take one from a boat or from shore, why, or would it be better to make our own plans once ashore?
2. Is there any horse driven cart rides in Key West for sightseeing?
3.Are taxi's needed once the ship docks at port or is town right there to walk to. I've read some horror stories about these wild Mexican taxi driver's, so is it a must to get a cab to go any or everywhere?
4. Are there really any "MUST" see sites at either stop that really shouldn't be missed?
These are just a few questions right off that we can think of. So any and all responds, plus anything else everyone can add to this would be great.
Two more weeks until we hit the sea, AHOY!!!!
In Cozumel, the town is a little far to walk but they have a pretty good system for cabs. You walk off the pier and through a small shopping area and the cabs are right outside. It is $5.00 per cab and it will drop you off in town at the beginning of the shopping area. After you finish shopping you will see the line of cabs on the other side of the street. Just grab one for the ride back to town. Have a great trip.
In Cozumel take a taxi to either the Lagoon, Playa del Sol, or San Francisco beach and snorkel on your own. At the Lagoon you can rent snorkel gear right there cheaper than the ship. Taxi's in Coz are quite differant than those famous Tijuana Taxi's and the whole area is quite differant from Mexico, cleaner, safer, and polite. In Cozumel one of the "must do's" is a visit to Carlos and Charlies downtown. Shop first as after visiting C&C's you will be ready for the ship. In Key west you must also take a taxi to town and yes there are horsedrawn surries available as well as the "trollies". In Key west there is the museam thsat holds artifacts of the Anatochia (sp) that Mel Fisher found as well as Trumans 'Little White House' and many small bars that are famous.
I would highly recommend Chankanaab park. $8. for the Cab, $10. per person to get in. Nice little nature park, with some Island history. Very good snorkeling. Also, DOlphin swim is available as well. Awesome beach as well
