Actually as soon as you figure out what shore excersions you want to take, book them ASAP. Unfortunately, some of the good ones sell out rather quick, so as soon as you can, sign up for them! Good luck and have a great cruise, bet you're in the process of packing by now?? Happy Sailing
With this being your first cruise, unless you are very comfortable on your own in a foriegn land then I suggest you pretty much stick to the ships tours. In many cases you can save a few bucks doing them on your own but unless you are familiar with the area and are the totally no-worrying type, stick to the cruise ship sponsored stuff. Remember, the ship won't wait for you if you return late, but if a ships tour is late they do wait for them. As soon as you board and go to your cabin you should find some flyers about the shore excursions offered and an order sheet. Fill them out as soon as possible as some of the more popular ones sell out quickly.
We also are traveling Triumph on the 13th. On our 1st cruise we did only ship arranged excursions. Some were pretty good. Others were a waste of money. This time we are going to go it alone in Cozumel, since we are in port so long. I have heard that Ocho Rios can be pretty unsafe so we will probably do one of the ship excursions. Not sure about Grand Cayman. If you call carnivals 800# they will fax you info on the excursions with details and pricing. Might be interesting reading on the trip to Miami. See you in 4 days!!!
The best time to book shore excursions is at the temrinal. They are way cheaper than on board the ship and who ever you go with will make sure you get back to the ship on time. Their living depends on it!
