A group of 16 of us are sailing on the maiden voyage of the Spirit, thru the Panama Canal, in April 2001. Just received a call from our T/A advising passports are necessary for this cruise. Since it takes 4-6 weeks to receive your passport, I thought I would give a heads-up to anyone on the boards who might be joining us. Bon Voyage.
If anyone you are cruising with doesn't have a passport, here is a link to go about getting them. We were able to get ours in 2 weeks in August 2 years ago, I guess it just depends on how busy they are?? Be sure to let us all know about Spirit when you get back!
I noticed a previous post that is going on Spirit through the canal and they were told to have passports, don't know if this is something new? As far as I know, if you are cruising in the caribbean, your birth cirtificate and a picture drivers license is all you will need. If you think you may travel more in the future, I recommend going ahead and just getting passports, they are just so much more easy to travel with. May be a good idea to double check with your travel agent.
