Just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for the luggage to be delivered to the cabin. I wanted to know if I should take that evenings dinner clothes in a carry on bag along with our toiletries ?
It is always a great idea to bring a carryon bag. As far as your question is concerned...what time do you plan on arriving and boarding the ship ???..the longer you wait the longer the luggage will take to your room.
That is a very good idea to take the dinner clothes on a carry on, you never know when the luggage will arrive. Better be safe than sorry, in all chances you'll have it, but you just never can tell.
The first night's dinner is casual (whatever you happen to be wearing is okay) because they know some people don't have their luggage yet. We just carried our luggage on the ship ourselves. If you are willing to do a little sweating you will have your stuff immediately. We had two pullmans and a garment bag. You are allowed to do this, most people just don't because using the porters is easier. I thought it was really worth the little effort, not to mention the savings at $1.00/bag for them to deliver the bags to your room. Side-note, the porters who check your bags at the dock DO NOT work for the cruise line. They work for the port authority.
If you do check your luggage make sure you have a swimsuit and a change of clothes in your carry-on bag. Also, any medications and personal items (comb, brush, ect) should be in your carry-on.
We always pack a change of clothes for first nights dinner in our carry on. Then it simply doesn't matter when the suitcases are delivered.
And while first night dinner is indeed casual, it's nice to have a shower and get out those sweaty clothes you've been wearing all day.
