We will be staying 1 night in New Orleans on Sept 8th prior to boarding the Inspiration the following day and would like a recommendation for a nice but cheap and safe motel/hotel for 2 adults & 2 kids. It will be our first time in new orleans and if hubby's not too tired from driving I would like to be close to something we could possibly check out while we are there. Any Suggestions of where to stay and what to see or do while we are there? Thanks!
Hello Darlene. New Orleans is a really fun place. It also has several things to do for kids.
There are several nice hotels by the airport in Kenner, LA. This is about a 15-20 minute cab ride to Canal Street and the French Quarter.
My preference is either the Marriott or Sheraton on Canal St. Not cheap, but cerain times of the year you can get discounts. Also the Hilton Riverside is very nice. All 3 hotels are big convention hotels. But they are close to the Mississippi River. There you can go to the Aquarium, which is very nice. There is a shopping complex at the pier called The Riverwalk. If you stay at any of the 3 hotels mentioned above ot any other french quarter hotel, you are within a few minutes walk to the river....
AAA discounts are usually pretty good.
Good luck and happy cruising. Would be happy to answer any questions.
I would suggest going on 2 sites. The first is turbotrip.com You can get some excellent fares there. The other is neworleansonline.com/gtg
this one lists the hotels in the city and where they are located. You can call them and get prices as well. I would say these are the best 2. I am from New Orleans and it all depends on where you are staying. The French Quarter and Downtown near the Convention Center will put you in the best location of the pier.
I am sailing the Inspiration on Dec 30 for my honeymoon. You must come back and tell us all about the ship!
I was just in New Orleans and stayed at the Hilton Riverfront. It's convenient to all the downtown activities and right at the dock where the cruise boats leave. A few blocks closer to the convention center and closer to the cruise dock is the Holiday Inn. I am sure it is cheaper that the Hilton, but it looked like a nice hotel.
New Orleans has many nice Hotels not far from the dock. However, it is very hard to get one so book your reservatons real early. The Hilton is the best for your family. You can walk the River Walk and be right there. The Double Tree is another one that is real close to everything. You also can call the Marriott and ask for there closest Hotel. I think it is the Courtyard. I do hope you enjoy your stay. Be sure to take the Trolley. It will take you down St. Charles. The Zoo would be a really nice place to visit with the children. You can take the Trolley to an from. Don't miss the French Market. You will definitely enjoy the scenery near the Cathredal. New Orleans has the most gorgeous old Churches. There is so much to see. I hope you have a great time. By the way, the Inspiration is beautiful. Unfortunately, New Orleans hotels are not cheap and they are always booked. Good luck. I do think the Hilton is probably your best bet. It will be close to everything, including the dock. I will be in New Orleans today and I'll see if there are anyother hotels near the Riverwalk that I may have forgotten. I have a home in New Orleans so we never get hotels there. We live only 2and 1/2 hours from New Orleans. We are always there. You will also see Harah's Casino. Of course, the children are not allowed but it is really beautiful.
